William Sampson Guy (May 8, 1879 – June 30, 1966)〔 was a farmer and dairyman from Churchill, Liberty Township, Trumbull County, Ohio. William S. Guy Middle School in Liberty Township is named after him.〔〔 == Early life == William Sampson Guy's grandfather was Thomas Guy, Sr. (1812 – December 18, 1883), who was born in Tanderagee, County Armagh, Ulster, Ireland. Guy, Sr. settled in the vicinity of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in his early manhood. He was a Methodist minister attached to the Pittsburgh, the Old Erie, and the Ohio Methodist conferences. Guy, Sr. married Elizabeth McKeever (1822 – August 1897) in about 1844. The couple had at least nine children, including Thomas Guy, Jr. Thomas Guy, Sr.'s son and William Sampson Guy's father, Thomas Guy, Jr., was born in Cadiz, Ohio on September 22, 1845. Thomas Guy, Jr. was reared and educated at the various places where his father, Guy, Sr., was stationed as a minister, receiving two terms at Berea, near Cleveland, Ohio. He started life as a young man by clerking. He located at Churchill, Liberty Township, Ohio in 1874. and purchased the Old Company store there, which he conducted for a number of years, retiring to look after his farm interests, which he was connected with up to the time of his death, March 25, 1897. He served during the American Civil War in the Union Army, in Company C, One Hundred and Fiftieth Ohio Infantry. He belonged to the advanced degrees in Freemasonry, holding his membership at Youngstown, Ohio, and was an honored member of the Grand Army of the Republic, also at Youngstown. In politics, he was a Republican.〔 Thomas Guy, Jr. was married on September 27, 1876 to Harriet Jane "Hattie" Sampson (June 13, 1854 – June 6, 1935), the daughter of William B. Sampson (1830 – 1886) and Amanda Walker Sampson (1833 – 1878), of Churchill. Mr. Sampson was of Scotch-Irish descent, and came to Churchill as a boy. Thomas Guy, Jr. and Hattie Guy had two children. The eldest was William Sampson Guy, born 1879, and the younger, Thomas J. Guy, born in 1894.
